Void-of-Course Moons

Never heard of the void of course moon? Knowing when it comes up will help you avoid bad decision making and wasted effort.

We become more fallible during a void of course moon, which occurs every few days or so and lasts for a few minutes to several hours. Void of course moons occur when the moon finishes its last major aspect in a particular sign before it moves to the next sign.

Avoid doing anything important, such as a job interview or granting someone a loan, during a void of course moon. Void of course moons disrupt communication. Anything we do could require some adjustment later.

An example — In every presidential election from 1900 to 1972, one of the two major party candidates was nominated when the moon was void of course. Every one of those particular candidates lost!

For millennia, mankind has found peace and solace in objects of significance. When cleansed and consecrated through ritual, such objects - be they gems, amulets, herbs, or written words - become talismans. A talisman is any item imbued with a specific power by its bearer to serve a specific intention. Ancient Egyptians used massive stone tablets as healing talismans while the Greeks and Romans used lead talismans to communicate with the spirit realm. Traditionally, a talisman acts to anchor energy in the physical plane. That energy may be protective in nature or may be intended to draw abundance, wealth, or a wide variety of blessings to its user. Today, a talisman may be made of wood, metal, paper, stone, or natural elements such as plants. Often, talismans are small enough to be easily worn or carried, and they may be marked with words or symbols that the talisman's owner deems meaningful.

Creating and owning a talisman can reassure you and also serve to aide you in attracting what you want in life. You may use your talisman to help you attain health, security, or good luck. Or you may simply want to carry an object with you that will remind you of your search for soulful tranquility. In order to create a talisman, you must first determine its physical properties. This can be as innocuous as a strip of paper bearing the word "Love" and carried in a wooden box or cloth sack. You may prefer a more visible talisman, such as a metal amulet or a gemstone worn as jewelry. Before your object becomes a talisman, however, it must be charged. This can be done by cleansing the object - with water or with incense - and holding a ritual of your own making. Or, you can leave the object in moonlight or sunlight or bury it in the earth for a time. To preserve its effectiveness, talismans should be reconsecrated regularly.

Almost any object can be transformed into a talisman of protection, good fortune, health, love, or serenity. It may be strung on a cord and hung around the neck, worn on a belt, or carried in a purse or pocket. But the physical properties of the talisman are not as important as the intention of its bearer. If you are grounded in your desires, your talisman will give you a focal point that you can concentrate on to affirm your intention and help you achieve your goals.

The Lunar Nodes

The North and South Nodes are the points where the Moon’s Orbit crosses the Earth’s orbit around the Sun (commonly called the Ecliptic). So they’re not planets and, until recently, largely ignored as a means to interpreting a birth chart. They are exactly 180º apart in the sky and are always retrograde, possibly why they are considered the primary karmic indicators. As they are always in ‘opposition’ they are considered as axes, when the North Node is in the First House the South Node is in the Seventh. Similarly, when the North Node is in Aries, the South Node is in Libra

The South Node indicates what we are comfortable with, the lessons previously learnt and brought into this incarnation to help overcome the challenges we are to face. The ruling planet of the sign occupied by the South Node is an indicator of what we did to learn these lessons.

The North Node indicates the challenges that we are to face during our spell on Earth. Alternatively, it will indicate lessons to learn (since they may not be challenges and a quite enjoyable experience). The ruling planet of the sign occupied by the North Node is an indicator of the ideal way to face the challenges or lessons during this life.

So, for example, if the North Node is in Aries look for Mars in the birth chart, take particular attention of it’s sign and house placement and any aspects (especially to retrograde planets). Saturn and the Fixed Cross

In the fall of 2005, intensifying in DECEMBER 2005, Saturn in FIXED LEO moves into position to create a FIXED GRAND CROSS. A GRAND CROSS is created when 4 planets all square each other. This one occurs in the FIXED signs. Jupiter is in FIXED SCORPIO (Jupiter enters Scorpio on October 25), Neptune is in FIXED AQUARIUS, and Mars spends extra time in FIXED TAURUS, where it will Retrograde this fall (October 1 - December 10). Mars stations Retrograde at 23 degrees Taurus on October 1, 2005 and stations Direct at 8 degrees Taurus on December 10, 2005. The Grand Cross intensifies in mid December as Mars starts to move forward and squares Saturn and Neptune while opposing Jupiter.

When there is a FIXED GRAND CROSS, this indicates a build-up of intensity and energy. The Will to achieve important goals can become so absolute and compelling that, you can endure any and all challenges, yet continue to stick exactly to The Plan. As the pressure builds into a FIXED SQUARE, energy stabilizes and becomes congealed or hardened, so whatever does not support the structure will become obviously weak and need to be fixed. Internalizing or personalizing the tension can create inner blocks of frustrated energy, or congestion that will not let go. The tendency is to hold on tight to whatever you own, possess, or control, including people, relationships, things, careers, power, and money. You may know what you want and feel very certain about what to do and how to get it AND keep it. And during the FIXED SQUARE you can be feeling especially certain of your moral correctness or your right to have what you deserve. You can make plans and set goals, yet to get along with others, you may need to adapt, which may not seem possible. If your determination turns into rigidity, all progress will stop and energy become inhibited, crystallized, and congested. And since Mars and Saturn are included in this Grand Square, ego gratification and glorification can turn a grand plan into a rigid demand and there can be intolerance to opposing views and a refusal to make crucial, timely changes. You may become confused between doing what you feel is necessary for the greater plan to succeed and the immediate consequences to individuals. Negative emotions like anger and jealousy can turn inward and become so critical and judgmental they decay into negative attitudes and contaminating diseases that become so ingrained, insidious, and entrenched they cannot be changed or removed. Feelings that are deeply buried may become apparent through disease or emotional crisis, but there is no simple fix for moving out of entrenched and toxic patterns that are not working. Movement beyond this phase is a softening process, and there is no magic pill or bullet that will make everything immediately ideal. Softening can feel like a loss of power and potency to anyone who realizes that power is built slowly and by holding on, not by letting go. You cannot force anyone to be compassionate, yet by focusing only on absolute goals, we can lose our compassion and become emotionally (and possibly physically) rigid.

Paying Attention To Red Flags

Just as the universe wants to provide for our needs, it also seeks to protect us from dangerous situations, destructive relationships, and even minor inconveniences. Frequently in our lives, perhaps everyday, we encounter psychic red flags warning us of potential problems or accidents. We may not always recognize the signs. However, more often than not, we may choose to ignore our intuition when it tells us that "something just isn't right."

Red flags often come in the form of feelings urging us to pause for a moment, listen to our intuition, and reconsider. We may even experience a "bad" feeling in our bellies. This is a red flag letting us know that there may be a problem. We may not even know what the red flag is about. All we know is that the universe is trying to wave us in a different direction. We just have to pay attention and go another way. We may even wonder whether we are paranoid or imagining things. However, when we look back at a situation or relationship where there were red flags, it becomes easy to understand exactly what those warning signs meant. More often than not, a red flag is not a false warning. Rather, it is the universe's way of informing us, through our own innate guidance system, that our path best lies elsewhere.

We may try to ignore the red flags waving our way, dismissing our unease as illogical. Yet it is always in our best interest to pay attention to them. For example, we may meet someone who outwardly seems perfect. They are intelligent, attractive, and charming. Yet, for some reason, being around them makes us feel uneasy. Any interactions we have with them are awkward and leave us feeling like there is something "off" about the situation. This is not necessarily a bad person. But, for some reason, the universe is directing us away from them. Red flags are intended with our best interests at heart. No harm can ever come from stopping long enough to heed a red flag. Remembering Childhood Joys

As adults, we often get so caught up in "grown up" business that we can forget how to have pure fun. This isn't the kind of fun that comes from doing a specific kind of activity or being in a specific mood for fun. Rather, this is the fun born from the state of pure being. You see this kind of fun in small children who are so busy being fully present to their lives and in their own bodies that the glow of fun radiates from them just because they are alive: the delight that flashes across the eyes of a child who discovers that water flows with the turn of the tap knob or the squeal of pleasure from a young baby whose tongue is being tickled by cold ice cream; then there's the full, infectious laughter of a child watching the same hat trick for the fiftieth time.

Back when we were children, this experience of pure delight didn't have to come from a heightened, heady event in order for us to feel like our day had been made; and it can be that way for us again - if we are willing to remember and reconnect with that part of ourselves that knows how to be in the flow of fun. You can begin this process by reminiscing on what was fun for you as a child. Think about what caused you to giggle in delight or wriggle in pleasure or burst into endless laughter that you couldn't sit up straight no matter how much you wanted to. Try to spend a few moments with each memory, and really feel what it was like to be in those experiences - allowing that feeling of pure fun to wash over you. It lives, in you - that feeling. It can't be bottled, manufactured, or sold. You just have to call it back up in order to experience it again.

Pure fun happens when we are fully engaged with ourselves and our world in each moment. It is the spontaneous delight that bubbles out of us when we let go long enough to bring it through; it is the experience of natural, organic pleasure that springs up from our bellies, through our souls, up through our faces, and down to our toes. We've naturally known how to have pure fun since we were babies and the flicker of lights caused us to jump to attention from the sheer enjoyment of being able to see. Venus Retrograde On December 24, 2005

On December 24, 2005, Venus reaches her retrograde station, in preparation for a period of retrograde motion which will last until February 3, 2006. On top of that, the effects of the retrograde period will continue to be felt until she returns in direct motion on March 7 to the degree where she first made her station (1° Aquarius 27').

Venus turns retrograde only once every eighteen months, but the effects of each period differ, according to the sign in which it happens. Venus turns retrograde in conjunction with Chiron, the wounded healer. Perhaps this will help heal the wounds exposed by the previous Venus Retrograde period, in 2004, when the planet of love and money crossed the face of the Sun in a rare transit of Venus on June 8.

A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the zodiac. This traditional concept arises in the illusory planetary motion created by the orbital rotation of the earth, with relation to other planets in our solar system. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way, due to this optical illusion.

Retrograde periods, although often problematic for us earthlings, are not particularly uncommon. Each planet retrogrades, except the Sun and Moon.

Fated Events

As a rule, retrograde planets presage a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events, which relate to their sphere of influence. They present us with a series of events over which we seem to have little or no control, relating especially to the sign in which the retrogradation occurs.

A retrograde period is best seen as a cycle, beginning when the planet begins to slow to a halt before travelling backwards through the zodiac and ending when the planet returns to the point where it first paused. However, during the cycle, the planet's energy is most powerful (and more likely to generate critical events of universal importance) when the planet makes a station, appearing motionless in the sky. These stationary periods occur near the beginning of the cycle (when the planet first halts as it prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when the retrograde planet slows to a stop before moving forward again. The "direct station" (when the planet halts before moving forward again) is the most powerful and can be used for maximum benefit.

What does Venus affect?

In general, Venus, the goddess of love, rules feelings and emotion, aesthetics and tastes, fashions and all forms of desire, money and wealth. Venus rules social attitudes and behaviour, along with aesthetic tastes and inclinations. Venus symbolises female relationships and social interactions at every level. Venus indicates our values. She governs romance, marriage and other partnerships, capacity for humour, and the pursuit of pleasure.

During a retrograde period the things Venus influences will be less apparent, or be of less concern to the world. Visual sensibilities are reduced. People dress with less flair and our colour sense tends to be muted. This is not the time to purchase clothes or jewellery, change one's make-up or hairstyle. Redecorating or refurbishing homes or business should also be avoided, though there is no reason why decisions that have been made earlier should not be allowed to come to fruition during this period.

With Venus retrograde, the pace of relationships slows down and this is not the best time to get married or give big parties. Since Venus rules diplomacy, slowdowns in all sorts of negotiations can be expected, including industrial disputes, legal issues and diplomatic endeavours.

It is a time when we are called upon to go back and take care of unfinished business. Often we are forced to deal with deep feelings that have their origins in past events. They are activated on an inner level but are often difficult to express to ourselves or others while Venus is retrograde.

Venus Retrograde in Aquarius

When Venus is retrograde, everyone's emotional state is more introspective and we tend to react emotionally to the issues and concerns that relate to the sign involved. With Venus retrograde in Aquarius, people with this sign prominent in their charts will be especially prone to such introspection. There is little choice but to reconsider our personal feelings and relationships. There is, however, an opportunity to gain insight into one's own mode of relating, whether sexually, creatively, or financially.

Venus retro in Aquarius forms acquaintances with strangers and gains friends with ease, though the friendships and associations will be somewhat out of the ordinary, with a marked tendency towards the experimental. Expect a marked disregard for convention in personal tastes and friendships during this period.

Groups will be favoured. Financial gain may come through friends and associates, especially as a result of past commitments, but this generosity may be withdrawn when Venus return to direct motion through the zodiac. Wide-ranging social attitudes and behavioural patterns will come to the fore and there may be some stiff resistance from conventional circles. A less than passionate approach to romance and other close relationships is to be expected, but unconventional or unorthodox relationships will be readily embraced. Mental companionship will be the key.

Mercury Retrograde – The Messenger Flying Backwards

Even if we don’t know what it means, just the sound of the phrase ‘mercury retrograde’ fills us with feeling of trepidation. It just sounds so ominous. What does it mean? And why are people so concerned about it?

Planets move clockwise around the sun. For someone living on the sun, no planet would ever be in retrograde. But from our vantage point, here on earth, planets sometimes appear to be stationary or even moving backwards. This is due to the relationships of the planets to each other, as they each circle the sun.

When a planet appears to be moving backwards in our sky, it is said to be in retrograde. Mercury, which is the closest planet to the sun, and has the smallest orbit, goes into retrograde about three times per year.

The planet Mercury is named for the ancient Roman messenger god, who traveled across the skies on winged sandals, sharing news and delivering messages from the gods. Like its namesake, this hot little orb is associated with communication, information and travel.

Be prepared for communication breakdowns when the messenger is flying backwards. Information seems to be blocked during this phase. Challenges related to computers, telephones and other communication devices may arise, when the quicksilver planet is backtracking. So be sure to double check your data and perform frequent computer back-ups.

On a personal level, too, communications may fail and misunderstandings may arise. Be careful about what you say to friends and family as you may be misunderstood. Conversely, don’t fly off the handle if someone says something that seems hurtful, to you; chances are they didn’t mean what you thought they did. For the same reasons, it is also best to avoid business negotiations during Mercury Retrograde.

Try not to plan travel when Mercury is moving counter-clockwise. Delays are more frequent and misplaced luggage more common. If you must travel, book flights early in the day and travel light, carrying on your luggage if possible. This will make it easier for you to deal with sudden changes in your itinerary.

On the positive side, this is a good time for introspection. It is as time for completing projects, started when Mercury was direct. It is a good time for cleaning out closets and clearing your desk, literally and figuratively.

Astrology: Sagittarius Skyscope

Sagittarius is the time of year for travel, truth and adventure and includes Thanksgiving and the run up to Christmas, so you also know it is about going overboard and blowing your wad.

The Sun enters Sag on Nov. 21st in most of the country, except for the Eastern zone, when it enters just after midnight on the 22nd.

Saturn turns retrograde at this time, throwing business into heavy-duty efforts to try to sell during a tight economic time for many.

The economy sucks overall due to the Jupiter square Saturn and Saturn's opposition to Neptune, which is all the smoke and mirrors of the Bush administration's handling of the country's finances.

The New Moon rises with the Sun in the west on the 1st and trines Saturn, so this is a good period to finish up a lot of work and get interrupted by ten zillion other things that all seem to need your personal attention, if it affects you closely.

Mercury goes direct on Dec. 3rd, so things can return to normal and we can jump into high gear as we sprint toward the end of the year.

The 4th is busy with the pleasant and charming Mercury sextile Venus and the robust and enthusiastic energy of Mars opposite Jupiter, which can bite off more than it can chew.

Sun sextile Neptune on the 6th brings in creative expression and inspiration as well as being a good time to have faith in your own creative identity.

Mars goes direct on Dec. 9th, so there is a greater sense of energy being let loose to throw off the repression of the retrograde.

Mercury and Venus again sextile and make for cozy companions along the path of trying to figure life out and it is also good for developing common interests and awareness of cooperating with others.

On Dec 12th, Mercury goes back into Sagittarius, allowing thoughts to become more lofty and expansive.

The Full Moon approaches on the morning of the 15th being in exact opposition to Pluto on the day when Venus enters Aquarius, so we all want to change how we relate to our partners or each other.

Sun conjunct Pluto says that change must come from within your own ego first. The 16th has Jupiter square Saturn and that happens only every 14 years and can cause problems with the international business and financial communities.

Mercury square Uranus on Dec. 18th can't be helpful when we tend to invent things to say that are so far out of the blue that they're hard to believe.

On the last day of autumn, Mercury trines Saturn, as though the winged messenger was passing the torch to old man winter, portrayed by Saturn, ruler of Capricorn, governing time, old age, duty and patience.

Sagittarius is a time to go too far, spend too much, eat and drink in excess and sometimes have a lot of fun doing it.

It is times like these that make memories and when you're going through flashbacks and deja vu, the memories are a tidal wave of feelings.

See this seasonal time not motivated by guilt and misplaced generosity, but rather than an experience that comes from the soul and the heart.

Happy Turkey Day as the Sun conjunct Mercury on the 24th is part of the cycle where Mercury is closest to us. It re-enters Scorpio on the 26th so you can do some research and investigation.

Jupiter trine Uranus is good fortune for those who know how to take advantage of the opportunity.

However, on the 28th, the Sun squares Uranus and accidents can happen and often do under this influence.

Being Happy For Friends

When we are close friends with someone, we intuitively know when they need a hug, a helping hand, or a sympathetic ear. Likewise, when we are going through bleak periods in our lives, we count on friends to support us through loss, illness, and other setbacks, both big and small. And while part of being a good friend means being there when the other person needs us, it is just as important to be there for our friends so we can share in their joyous celebrations and triumphs.

After all, who else would our friends want to celebrate their promotions, graduations, marriages, and good news with than their loved ones and good friends. Yet depending on what is happening in our lives, it can sometimes be difficult to be there for our friends during the good times. We can become so busy with our own lives that we forget to make time. November New Moon

There has been a lot of stress lately in many people's lives. The October eclipses, and retrograde Mars, have been creating, or aggravating, crises situations, or at the very least, been an annoying pain in the ...

I wish I could say it's over now, but there are still things that have not yet come to a head, but will before the year is over.

Astrologically, a month begins with a New Moon, and so I am going to talk about the coming month.

November 1-30

The month begins with the New Moon at 9 Scorpio 43. At first glance, it seems like an ordinary New Moon...but in reality, it is very significant. Why? Because it is focusing everyone's attention to parts of their chart where problems will be coming to a head between now and the rest of the year.

Time to look at your chart. If you have anything between 6 degrees and 12 degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, this New Moon is giving you a heads up....pay attention to what is going on in these areas of your life.

We'll focus on that again shortly.

As the calendar shifts from November 13-14, Mercury makes its notorious shift into Retrograde where it will stay until December 3.
This begins that annoying time of year when you get used to using words that start with the prefix "Re-", such as rehash, rewrite, redo. If you start anything during this period, you may find that you will have to redo it later. Plan on signing a contract? Check, recheck, and recheck again, every word, every clause, before you sign on the dotted line. It is a good time to look over stuff you've already done and find mistakes you missed, and it is also a good time to do research in general. But be aware that communication is more likely to go astray at this time, so have a backup of everything you send, and give a lot of extra thought before you open your mouth.

Now, with Mercury retrograde for the whole rest of November, communicating about problems represented by other aspects is going to be more difficult. So what you really need to do is be as aware as possible now of what is coming.

The day after Mercury goes retrograde, Uranus goes direct. Which means that there is a very intense Uranus influence for the few days either side of November 15. What does this mean? Expect the unexpected. I can't make it any simpler than that.
Wherever 6 Pisces 50 falls in your chart, you can expect some changes. If you have anything between 3 degrees and 9 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces, this will be closer to home, more personal, than if you don't. The changes are not necessarily bad, and in fact, they could even be exciting and positive. But one thing is for certain, they are not going to be expected.

And I would advise, if at all possible, not to start anything new around November 14-16, unless you WANT it to go off into unexpected directions. It is a good time to break with the past. But if you are hoping to build something lasting, please try to postpone it if you can.

The SAME day as Uranus stations, we will have a Full Moon at 23 Taurus 46. If you have been following the passage of Mars, you will note that when Mars went retrograde on October 1, it was at 23 Taurus 22. What this means is that the Full Moon will be bringing to a head things that started happening at the beginning of October, and there will be a lot of emotional churning going on.
If a fight has been brewing, don't be surprised if this is when it will break out. If you DON'T want to fight, now is not the time to bring up controversial issues, nor is it the time to assert yourself. And if you know people who normally tend to emotional extremes, this would be a good time to keep your distance from them.

November 18, Mars squares Saturn. This is a foreshadow of what will happen a few days from now. The general feel in the area is the desire to lock horns with authority, or to put your foot down and assert your authority to stop something that is going on. In either case, there is a lot of tensiion, a lot of frustration, and there can easily be anger exploding as a result.

November 22, Saturn reaches stationary retrograde at 11 Leo 19.
Remember, the New Moon started the month focusing on areas that you will have to deal with? Well, now Saturn focues on the same areas. Saturn station is like a giant brake is being applied. Stop and pay attention to what has to be dealt with. If you have been not completely aboveboard in your dealings, Saturn now can make you have to deal with the consequences of your actions. If you have been getting carried away, Saturn now says 'Whoa!" If you have been rebelling, Saturn may be the authority that gets in your face now. Whatever happens, though, it will be in the areas of your chart that were focused on at the time of the New Moon.

So that's an overview of what the next month will be like. What doesn't come to a head in this period, WILL come to a head in December when Mars finally reaches its station (around the 10th).

What is it, and how does it affect Astrology?

The argument of the Precession of the Equinoxes is one frequently made by those opposed to astrology, who claim that it ‘disproves’ astrology and renders it invalid. This is perhaps best illustrated by an answer we gave in response to a recent question:

"How can astrology be valid when the points in space you refer to are no longer in the same positions as they were thousands of years ago? Doesn't that invalidate all of this horoscope stuff?"

I think the phenomenon to which you are referring is known as the Precession of the Equinoxes. Because of this phenomenon, the zodiac signs do not now correspond with the constellations of the same name. This point is often made by astronomers and others to apparently 'prove' that astrology cannot 'work'. In actual fact, astrologers are well aware of the Precession and its effects.

The point referred to by Astronomers as the vernal equinox, and by astrologers as 0 degrees Aries is in fact seen each year from the earth as slightly before its previous year's position against the background of the constellations. This is caused by a wobble in the earth's axis, caused by unequal gravitational pull of the Sun and the Moon on the earth's surface. The point referred to as 0 degrees Aries is actually seen from earth now as being in the constellation of Pisces. Aha, the sceptics say - that proves astrology is nonsense, you say that someone's sun is in Aries when in fact that point in space is now in Pisces, right? Wrong.

It is vital to understand the difference between constellations and the zodiac. Much confusion arises for the lay person because the constellations have the same names as the signs of the zodiac, but they are not the same thing. The groups of stars marked on charts as constellations are not actually groups at all. What we see from earth is the grouping of several points of light, some from points many millions of light years away, and others from much further even that that. These 'groups' have no definite boundary lines as such, but are conveniently classified by man into constellations.

At the time that these constellations were being named and their name becoming known in the public arena, the 30 degrees of ecliptic, starting from the vernal equinox, was called Aries and the constellation that appeared as its background was therefore also called Aries. No precise date can be given for this, but the precession of the equinoxes was not discovered until 134 b.c by Hipparchus.

It is the vernal equinox point (0 degrees Aries to an astrologer) that appears from earth to move further back each year - the constellations remain in the same positions. However, the signs of the zodiac are and always have been counted in 30 degree segments from the vernal equinox point. Aries will always be the first 30 degrees of the ecliptic (with the others signs following on), and therefore will, each year, appear slightly further back against the background of the constellations.

So, the fact that the point we call 0 degrees Aries is now seen from earth as being against the background of the constellation of Pisces has nothing whatsoever to do with astrology - it neither proves nor disproves anything. When people assume that it somehow 'disproves' astrology, they have not understood the difference between the astronomical constellations and the astrological zodiac. It might help to understand if you can think of the signs of the zodiac as being a kind of shorthand to describe the various degrees of the ecliptic (remember, this always begins at the vernal equinox, and it's starting point does not change but it appears to against the background of the constellations). Each 30 degree segment of the ecliptic has certain astrological significance, but we don't actually need to call them Aries, Taurus and so on at all. It is just easier to say (for instance) that in a particular chart Mars is at 3 degrees Cancer rather than have to say it is at 93 degrees of the ecliptic.

I hope this answer has made things clearer for you. It is quite a tricky concept for the non-astrologer to grasp, but basically you should always remember that the signs of the zodiac and the astronomical constellations may share names, but are not the same thing!
